NYACH was created with funding from the New York Community Trust, the NYC Workforce Funders, and a Social Innovation Fund grant from the National Fund for Workforce Solutions, and continues to receive ongoing support from these three entities. The NYC Department of Small Business Services also provides substantial support and makes extensive investments in training informed by NYACH’s approach.
In 2001, a group of 40 foundations with an interest in workforce issues joined forces to establish the New York City Workforce Funders. The New York City Workforce Development Fund in the New York Community Trust was created to distribute funds to demonstration projects and capacity-building efforts. The Fund’s mission is to work with essential stakeholders in New York City to develop an effective New York City workforce development system with a focus on increasing access of low-income populations to entry-level jobs in growth sectors of the New York City labor market.
Since 1924, The New York Community Trust, through the generosity of its donors, has built a permanent endowment to support the nonprofit organizations that make our City a vital and secure place in which to live and work. The New York Community Trust is New York City’s community foundation, and one of the largest funders of City nonprofits.
