Workforce1 Career Center Opens in the Rockaways

Policy Updates

The Department of Small Business Services in partnership with NYCHA, the Center for Economic Opportunity and CITI Community Development announced the opening of a new Workforce1 Career Center in the Rockaways. The new center will offer wrap-around career services, including recruitment and job matching for jobseekers, on-site industry approved occupational training for in-demand jobs, assistance for businesses needing to find, hire and train workers, and referrals to community-based organizations, social service agencies, training providers, and other local organizations.

The center provides these services through the Rockaway Economic Advancement Initiative, part of Doorways to Opportunity, a CITI-funded initiative that aims to connect public housing residents with employment opportunities, financial counseling and entrepreneurship training. It is the first center to have a training lab space which will host a complete offering of trainings in various sectors including healthcare.

This is SBS’ 16th Workforce1 Career Center in New York City, working to connect New York jobseekers to training and employment opportunities. To learn more about the opening of the center or about the services offered, please read the press release HERE.
